Meeting with the President of the Republic of Korea

On 23 June 2026, Mr. Mikheil Tigishvili, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of Georgia to the Republic of Korea, attended a banquet dinner hosted by H.E. Mr. Lee Jae Myung, President of the Republic of Korea, in honor of the heads of diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited to the Republic of Korea. During the event, Mr. Tigishvili conveyed Georgia’s sincere appreciation for the Republic of Korea’s steadfast support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He reaffirmed the importance of further strengthening the close partnership between the two countries and highlighted Georgia’s strategic position along the Middle Corridor, which offers significant opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation in connectivity, logistics, trade, and supply chain resilience.

On 19 June 2026, Mr. Mikheil Tigishvili, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of Georgia to the Republic of Korea, held a meeting with Mr. Kim Sangjin, Head of the Global Policy Operations Team at Hyundai Motor Group. The parties discussed prospects for further developing cooperation between Georgia and Hyundai Motor Group, with particular attention given to Georgia’s potential as a regional logistics and manufacturing hub. The meeting also highlighted Georgia’s attractive investment environment, including its free trade agreements, well-developed Middle Corridor transport infrastructure, favorable tax regime, and opportunities for implementing projects in the field of hydrogen energy.

On June 17, 2026, in Sejong, H.E. Mikheil Tigishvili, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of Georgia to the Republic of Korea, held a meeting with Mr. SeulKi Kim, Director for International Policy of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs of the Republic of Korea. During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for strengthening cooperation between Georgia and the Republic of Korea in the field of veterans’ affairs, including the development of institutional ties and the possibility of concluding a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Particular attention was paid to the exchange of experience and best practices in the areas of veterans’ social and medical rehabilitation, vocational training, and reintegration into civilian life. The parties agreed to maintain close communication and continue working-level contacts with a view to further advancing bilateral cooperation.

On 27 April 2026, Aleksandre Gachechiladze, Deputy Director of the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency, and Levan Moseshvili, CEO of the United Airports of Georgia, held meetings organized by the Embassy of Georgia with representatives of leading Korean airlines - Kwangho Ko, Senior Vice President of Passenger Business Division at Korean Air, Tae Joon (TJ) Kim, Senior Vice President of International Affairs & Alliances at Korean Air, and Changsup Shim, Senior Vice President at T’way. During the meetings, the parties discussed prospects for strengthening cooperation between Georgia and the Republic of Korea in the aviation sector, including Korean Air’s planned resumption of seasonal charter flights to Georgia in May 2026, as well as the possibility of T’way operating flights to Georgia. The parties agreed to continue coordinated work on these matters.
