On October 7, Mikheil Tigishvili, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of Georgia to the Republic of Korea, met with Ms. Minyoung Lee, Director of the Trade Negotiations Coordination Division at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources (MOTIR). Discussions focused on preparations for the signing of the Georgia–Korea Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), as well as other key issues related to bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

From September 7 to 10, Paata Salia, Minister of Justice of Georgia, paid an official visit to the Republic of Korea, where he met with Yun Ho-jung, Minister of the Interior and Safety. The ministers discussed opportunities to deepen cooperation in digital development, and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation in digital government. The Georgian delegation also visited the National Disaster and Safety Status Control Center and the Digital Government Exhibition and Experience Center, where it was briefed on the centers’ activities, operations and technological solutions. The delegation included Beka Dzamashvili, First Deputy Minister of Justice; Tamar Zodelava, Deputy Minister of Justice; Mikheil Tigishvili, Chargé d’Affaires of Georgia to the Republic of Korea; and Sandro Tsirekidze, Chair of the Digital Governance Agency.

On September 8, the Ministry of Justice of Georgia and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety of the Republic of Korea signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in digital government. The agreement provides for the establishment of a Digital Government Cooperation Center and joint work to further develop Georgia’s unified electronic services portal, my.gov.ge. The signing took place during an official visit to the Republic of Korea by Georgia’s Minister of Justice, Paata Salia. During a meeting with Yun Ho-jung, Minister of the Interior and Safety Republic of Korea, Minister Salia discussed opportunities to expand cooperation in digital development. Minister emphasized the importance of the partnership in artificial intelligence, innovative technologies, electronic services, and digital government. He also shared Georgia’s recent progress in digital government, electronic services, cybersecurity, and information security. The Georgian delegation included Beka Dzamashvili, First Deputy Minister of Justice; Tamar Zodelava, Deputy Minister of Justice; Mikheil Tigishvili, Chargé d’Affaires of Georgia to the Republic of Korea; and Sandro Tsirekidze, Chair of the Digital Governance Agency of Georgia.

On September 7, Georgia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Botchorishvili, met with Song Seog-jun, Chair of the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee of the Republic of Korea’s National Assembly, during his official visit to Georgia. The two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations, with a focus on trade and economic cooperation. They highlighted the importance of direct flights and visa-free travel in bringing the two countries closer together. They also emphasized the role of high-level visits in deepening cooperation between Georgia and the Republic of Korea.

On September 7, Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, met with Song Seog-jun, Chair of the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, and members of the committee. During the introductory meeting, the two sides discussed relations between Georgia and the Republic of Korea. The delegation also met with Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament of Georgia. They discussed bilateral relations and opportunities to strengthen parliamentary cooperation. The delegation is visiting Georgia at the invitation of Nikoloz Samkharadze.

On August 25, Mikheil Tigishvili, Chargé d’Affaires of Georgia to the Republic of Korea, met with Ms. Joo Eun Hae, Director of the Economic Legal Affairs Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. The two sides discussed priorities for trade and economic cooperation. They also reviewed progress in negotiations on the bilateral Agreement on the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments (BIT) and considered the next steps.

On August 24, the Embassy of Georgia hosted a ceremony to mark the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Yongsan Cultural Foundation. The memorandum was signed by Mikheil Tigishvili, Chargé d’Affaires of Georgia to the Republic of Korea, and Lim Hyung-joo, Chairman of the Yongsan Cultural Foundation. The memorandum aims to strengthen cultural cooperation between Georgia and the Republic of Korea through joint projects. As part of this cooperation, the first major Georgian cultural events are planned to take place in Seoul in 2027.

On August 24, Mikheil Tigishvili, Chargé d’Affaires of Georgia to the Republic of Korea, held a meeting with Kim Kyung-dae, the newly appointed Mayor of Seoul's Yongsan District. The two sides discussed ways to deepen bilateral cooperation, with particular attention to partnerships between the two capitals and their local governments. They also discussed plans for a series of major Georgian cultural events in April 2027, to be organized in cooperation with the Yongsan Cultural Foundation.

On August 13, Mikheil Tigishvili, Chargé d’Affaires of Georgia to the Republic of Korea, met with Yu Jong Pil, President of the Korea Institute of Startup and Entrepreneurship Development (KISED), and the institute’s leadership. The two sides discussed opportunities for future cooperation. KISED expressed its interest in working with Georgia’s Innovation and Technology Agency (GITA) and the Kutaisi Technology Hub. Georgia was also invited to participate in the Come Up Festival in Seoul this December with a national pavilion.

On 23 June 2026, Mr. Mikheil Tigishvili, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of Georgia to the Republic of Korea, attended a banquet dinner hosted by H.E. Mr. Lee Jae Myung, President of the Republic of Korea, in honor of the heads of diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited to the Republic of Korea. During the event, Mr. Tigishvili conveyed Georgia’s sincere appreciation for the Republic of Korea’s steadfast support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He reaffirmed the importance of further strengthening the close partnership between the two countries and highlighted Georgia’s strategic position along the Middle Corridor, which offers significant opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation in connectivity, logistics, trade, and supply chain resilience.

On 19 June 2026, Mr. Mikheil Tigishvili, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of Georgia to the Republic of Korea, held a meeting with Mr. Kim Sangjin, Head of the Global Policy Operations Team at Hyundai Motor Group. The parties discussed prospects for further developing cooperation between Georgia and Hyundai Motor Group, with particular attention given to Georgia’s potential as a regional logistics and manufacturing hub. The meeting also highlighted Georgia’s attractive investment environment, including its free trade agreements, well-developed Middle Corridor transport infrastructure, favorable tax regime, and opportunities for implementing projects in the field of hydrogen energy.

On June 17, 2026, in Sejong, H.E. Mikheil Tigishvili, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of Georgia to the Republic of Korea, held a meeting with Mr. SeulKi Kim, Director for International Policy of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs of the Republic of Korea. During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for strengthening cooperation between Georgia and the Republic of Korea in the field of veterans’ affairs, including the development of institutional ties and the possibility of concluding a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Particular attention was paid to the exchange of experience and best practices in the areas of veterans’ social and medical rehabilitation, vocational training, and reintegration into civilian life. The parties agreed to maintain close communication and continue working-level contacts with a view to further advancing bilateral cooperation.
