On July 30, Ambassador of Georgia, H.E. Mr. Otar Berdzenishvili gave a lecture: “Challenges and New Realities for the International Community” at Sunkgkyunkwan University, where special attention was paid to August 2008 war between Russia and Georgia.
During his speech, Ambassador talked about Russia’s full-scale military aggression against Georgia, which was followed by illegal occupation of Georgia’s inalienable regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region/South Ossetia. Mr. Berdzenishvili emphasized official Moscow’s unlawful activities throughout these 11 years, which extremely aggravates security conditions, human rights and humanitarian situation on occupied territories. The audience was briefed about Russia’s ongoing steps towards annexation of Georgian regions. Mr. Berdzenishvili talked regarding efforts of the Government of Georgia and international community to ensure peaceful resolution of the conflict, despite the permanent provocations from Russia.
In the end, Ambassador underscored, that despite the challenging aftermath of August 2008, Georgia succeeds in its democratic transition and economic development, and further advances its irreversible path towards European and Euro - Atlantic integration.
